The Endless Knot (September 2004)
Come to bed, my heart, my soul,
Close your eyes to coldest midnight.
The hour strikes, the bell shall toll
Against the thunder and rain.
Between us lie these thickest chords,
So finely tuned as fiddle strings,
And between us is a friendly ford
For which either may peacefully cross.
In times past, these chords did knot,
And to us they have meant much—
More than trade or money could have bought.
These heart ties are endlessly building.
On these thunder-ridden nights,
I pledge myself to you in full delight—
Knowing not, nor caring, for what
Tomorrow shall bring our way.
Entwine your fingers with mine
As our souls have long since lain
In our creator’s knowing design
Bound and entwined evermore.
