Charred (October 2006)

Thunder clapped
Heard it from miles away
In your city flat
Set against the slums.

How you never expected that
Old tree to fall, to be the
Usurper of your little life
See the gold and rubies you’ll never get
Entertained by charcoal-grey smoke.

Brace yourself
Under a cold, man-made rain
Running, dancing with reds
Never to be the same
Save yourself.
