Del.icio.us Roundup for January 2007
Date: January 29, 2007
I browse a lot, and these are the links I’ve compiled for the month of January. Half of this is amazingly interesting or worthwhile; the rest is utter crap that will just amuse you. See? I understand balance. That’s why I’m loved.
- The 10 Most Dangerous Toys of All Time - A look at what might kill your rugrat.
- 53 CSS Techniques You Couldn’t Live Without - “53 CSS-based techniques you should always have ready at hand if you develop web-sites.” Not that I use all of these myself…
- 100 Things We Didn’t Know This Time Last Year - “Each week the Magazine picks out snippets from the news, and compiles them into 10 Things We Didn’t Know This Time Last Week. Here’s an end of year [for 2006] almanac.”
- A Peaceful Marriage is Not Always 50/50 - A humorous and truthful look at marriage. You can’t change another person!
- abrViewer - “There are lots of wonderful brush sets for photoshop in the web… too many to install them all just to see what they look like! now you can have the preview of a set without having to install it.”
- Analogies and Metaphors From High School Essays - “The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife’s infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM machine.”
- Bag of Plagues for the Kids - Just what every child needs!
- Beijing Stamps Out Poor English - “Emergency exits at Beijing airport read ‘No entry on peacetime’ and the Ethnic Minorities Park is named ‘Racist Park.’”
- BitTyrant - BitTyrant is a new, protocol compatible BitTorrent client that is optimized for fast download performance.
- Can ‘crowdsourcing’ be slave labor? - “By design or by accident, the idea of asking consumers to create ads and design products has already become an accepted practice.”
- Cave Village in China - Slightly disturbing images–very interesting, though.
- ‘Convert or Die’ Game Divides Christians - “Liberal and progressive Christian groups say a new computer game in which players must either convert or kill non-Christians is the wrong gift to give this holiday season….”
- Cool Corn Art - “A rich farmer with way to much time on his hands I guess…”
- CSS Princess - Surprised that I only ran up on this gallery now. Interesting to see the different approaches that women take in web design, vs. men.
- CSS Tabs and CSS Navigation Menus Showcase - A showcase featuring beautifully-designed, valid CSS menus.
- Dusty Windshield Art - For when you are talented, have too much time on your hands and an available, dusty windshield.
- Feds to Revisit E-learning Patent - “In response to a challenge from a free and open software group, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has agreed to re-examine all 44 claims of a patent that covers e-learning tools.”
- Firebug - “Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.”
- Flour in Condoms Sent Her to Jail - A college student spent three weeks in jail after a supposed field test said she was carrying drugs. She filed a lawsuit.
- GJ Toilet - For big people who need to take big shits.
- iJigg - Digg-style site for music. Will either be wonderful or terrible.
- Intelligence Chairman is Rather Stupid - Your typical, uninformed politician.
- Lessons from Mom - “My mother taught me GENETICS. ‘You’re just like your father.’”
- Low Impact Woodland Home - This is an obvious combination of someone liking LOTR too much and taking An Inconvenient Truth way too seriously.
- Maps of War - A look at the empires of the Middle Eastern regions.
- Most Inspired - Design showcase aggregator.
- Mother Wins Dead Son Sperm Case - Creepy. “The lawyer of an Israeli couple who won the right to use their dead son’s sperm to inseminate a woman he never met says the case is a boost for family rights.” To summarize: It’s like the Oedipus Complex on crack.
- Office Holiday Politics - Is it Christmas, Hanukkah, holidays or something else? A comedic look at the politically correct world we live in.
- Old Poetry - A site of old, classic poetry that is in the public domain.
- Philips Bodygroom - Philips tells men to shave everything. I’m not too sold on that (as a female), but the commercial’s damn hilarious, if not risque.
- Phone Menu at Mental Health Institute - “If you are obsessive-compulsive, press 1 repeatedly.”
- Possibly the Best Pearly Gates Joke I’ve Ever Heard - “Saint Peter had a terrible cold and fever and didn’t think he would last the day minding the Pearly Gates of Heaven. So he phoned Jesus to ask for the day off….”
- Prometheus and Bob Downloads - Downloadable episodes of the short animation films “Prometheus and Bob” that used to be in an old Nickelodeon’s show, Kablam.
- Reasons to Be Optimistic - Gottman - “When Men Are Involved In the Care of Their Own Infants the Cultures Do Not Make War”
- RoxCast - This site allows you to watch almost 1000 live TV channels listen to almost 1400 online radio stations and watch over 250 webcams from about 100 countries.
- Snap Decisions Sometimes the Best - “Trusting your instincts may help you to make better decisions than thinking hard, a study suggests.”
- Students Interpret Science and Health - “…interpretations of nature from junior high, high school and college test papers and essays submitted to science and health teachers (spelling errors preserved).”
- Tampon Crafts - Strange, humorous crafts made with, you guessed it, tampons.
- Time for Rethink on Clitoris - “An Australian urologist, Dr Helen O’Connell, has revealed that the clitoris is shaped more like a mountain than a hill.”
- Virtual Parenting Poised for Growth Spurt - “A Dutch online game called “Eccky” lets would-be parents find each other, create a virtual baby based on their personal characteristics, and then raise the child with the use of the Web, MSN instant messaging and a cell phone.” I’ve decided that the Dutch are insanely creepy if they like this.
- World Public Opinion About the UN - “Interestingly, of the five countries with the strongest [positive opinion], none were countries with traditional, long-standing democratic governments.” Think about it.
- The World’s Healthiest Foods - “One hundred and thirty foods that can serve as the basis of your healthiest way of eating.”

hahaha, random browsing! Looking back on what I view in a month (and just a portion of it, to boot; as I only save my favorites), via del.icio.us, was rather humorous. It’s a mixed bag, to say the least.
