Little things, like vocal chords, mean a whole heck of a lot.
Date: September 18, 2006

Two weeks ago, I had a terrifically smart moment and locked myself out of my apartment. In turn, this saw me walking in a lot of cold rain to and from university, as well as to the nearest locksmith, who, thankfully, is not very far away. A week after that, I came down with what my family lovingly calls The CrudTM. The Crud is a cold virus that stays with you, seemingly sucking the life out of your very being, like the heartless and thoughtless body leech that it is. Despite having The Crud from Monday to Thursday, however, I was determined to go out on Friday, because it was one of the last times I’d see Kavita before she heads off to Japan for a year of studying. Friday’s fun has left me without a voice for three days now, though.
It’s little things, like your vocal chords, that you take for granted, of course. I can’t answer a phone, or I sound like a person trying to croak out her last words. I hope every day that no one will come to my door, because I sure as heck can’t carry a conversation, unless they’re willing to listen very closely to my Death Whisper. Lucky for me, I went grocery shopping on Friday, so I can pretty much avoid confrontation until I’m fully well again. AND CAN SCREAM AGAIN. Because that’s what matters.
I’m on two-week holiday from university, cooped up inside with my own silence and have to do the unthinkable: cook real food. God save us all.

You and me both. About two weeks ago myself, my car died on campus, along with somehow, my cell phone’s battery AND car charger. This was right in the middle of a light-weight tropical storm, so after a couple of miles walking barefoot in the rain and an inch or so of water to get to a payphone and call a tow truck … you get the picture. Luckily my voice has mostly returned, but I’m STILL coughing like an old man.
Here’s to green tea, honey, and a hot shower.

Justin, really does suck, yes! I’m still getting over my laryngitis. Considering I’m going to a party tomorrow, I’m curious if I’ll have any voice at all, come Thursday. :P
I hope you’re feeling better now! I’m guessing you’ll never forget to charge your cell phone again, at the very least. God knows I’m paranoid about my keys now.
