No More Lifestyles Editing for Me!
Date: January 11, 2006
So my job at the newspaper where I worked is over. I spent just one week shy of nine months there, which isn’t bad, considering it was my first job outside of commission work. I started as a typesetter (burn keys, burn!) and left as a lifestyles editor. Some experiences were bad, most were mediocre, and some were really unique and fun.
That being said, no one will ever make me go into journalism again, unless it’s to put food on my table in drastic times. It just isn’t for me. Perhaps it’s the fact that I was dealing with a fairly small newspaper (circulation: 10,000), whose readers were more interested in the quilting grannies down the road than self-help and how to and the secrets to a better life, which is what I’m interested in and good at. I just don’t give a crap what’s going on locally, and I guess that’s not the attitude that’s needed! (har, har!) Still, I got the job done, and I left today with some great compliments in my wake. I’ll have a good reference for my resume.
As part of tradition, I had a farewell lunch with my coworkers. It was somewhat laughable. Not being a lunch eater usually (I prefer only breakfast and dinner), I hadn’t eaten out with them before, for one. Secondly, though, a farewell lunch usually entails a sit-down meal somewhere that ends up in reservations and somewhat of a fuss.
I chose Taco Bell.
I am such a high maintenance girl, you see. LOL But I love being myself, and my cheese quesadilla was as good as ever. I also like that I only spent $3 for something that filled me up.
In eleven days, on January 22, I will go to the Nashville airport to begin my long flight to Melbourne, Australia. I expect to be thoroughly terrified on my flights, but maybe I’ll shock myself and calm down a bit. Either way, I will be really glad to see Brendan. And, as somewhat of a reminder to myself as well, I plan to sign up for a Flickr account for the snapshots I take; that should provide some amusement for everyone. Anything that’s extra good, I’ll save for my art photography. I return from my trip on the 12th of February, and shortly after that (the 21st), I’ll turn 19. Busy, busy times!
Pointless journal entry that was really more for me than anyone else! I’ll write something worthwhile in the next few days!

I’ve always wanted to go to Sydney to attend a service at Hillsong.
You’re lucky to be going to Australia :) Have fun!
