Cunning Man in a White Suit by Lelia Thomas

Silver-tongued, cunning, wonderful to the eye,
He is seen by many, and but one thing he looks to buy.

He walks in broad daylight
In a buttoned-up suit of shining white.

His actions perfectly planned,
His words light like seashore sand.

His intentions are quite different from his winning smile,
Which is only there to steal and beguile.

You find yourself entranced by his dreams that are only for you,
His offers seem golden, thorough, and true.

But search a little deeper, O Wise One,
Before all is said and done.

This hand you shake—
Is it his really or that fork-tongued snake?

Are those eyes simply gleaming,
Or is there more to his great beaming?

Check before it is too late—
Before thirty, fifty, eighty years come to date.

Written in 2001. It amazes me the deals people will make, without ever reading the fine print. Beware of who you shake hands with.
