Autumn’s Lullaby by Lelia Thomas

Sleep away the night
As leaves fall beyond your window.
Gold and red swirls of delight,
Where the feet of Autumn dance,
Faerie-like on the ground,
With whistling winds blowing round.

Sleep away, have no fright.
Dream an artist’s dream.
Stretch your small and weary limbs
On Dreamer’s clouds of cream,
With the piper’s pan flute playing,
Of things so real, yet unseen.

Sleep away, sleep away, bundled all up tight;
Winter’s not yet come to steal away delight.
Make your bed so soft and safe
Among clouds and harvest rye.
Feel your heart drum as one
Within Autumn’s Lullaby.

Details

This is a piece I wrote in 2004 that is easily what I think of when it comes to any children I might have in my lifetime. Lullabies and comfort to put young hearts to rest.
