Thou art the First Artisan to birth a creation,
Crowning Saturn with asteroid-jeweled rings,
Bestowing upon Venus the heated voice with which she sings,
And spattering stars for Orion’s Grecian glory.
A tale-weaving Composer of my intricate notes…
In my veins, Thou hast set vibrating rhythms to rise.
Giver of Harmony, make my soul’s song visible to all eyes.
Even as Thy halls echo with saintly voices.
The stones they throw are hard against my weary spirit,
Yet in Thee shall I rest and forget my weeping.
In Thy lilied courtyards shall I receive my keeping.
So give my heart the strength it must have for its purpose.
And when I stray from the Narrow Path,
Great Light, send one to turn my rived heart
Back to Thy watercolor canvases and the ever-perfecting art.
Guide me through the darkest of woods to pools of aurous sunshine.
I am but one among the thickets of humanity.
Like Orion, Thou hast modeled me in flesh, in blood, in bone.
So in me may verse and song and love be shone,
Flowing, more deeply than the salt sea currents.
Written in 2004, this piece is one of my poems that has references to God. I am no perfect person, nor do I try to be. For me, my connection to God and my beliefs comes out most when writing or creating. It is my prayer that my artwork, as well as the work of others, enhances people who come across it.
